Please complete the following Athlete Profile with as much detail as possible. Your answers will inform the training protocols I prescribe. It will take time for me to gain a comprehensive understanding of how you respond to different stressors, but the more information I have from the outset, the more appropriate and effective your initial training program will be (coaching is, after all, a ‘best guess’ practice).

It’s likely we will have discussed some of the questions below over the phone. Please complete the questions assuming I know nothing about you. A detailed written account will also provide a useful reference for us both to look back on as you progress.

Some of the questions below will be repeated when you complete a new Training Plan Request (approximately every 4-8 weeks). The Athlete Profile gives me a general overview of you, your training history, your developmental needs, and your current training readiness. The Training Plan Request allows me to analyse how those factors are changing over time.

Do you live in an urban or rural environment? What's the terrain like (roads, canal paths, off-road trails, coastal paths, technical rocky terrain etc)? Do you have access to hills? Are your local climbs long and mountainous, or short cross country hills? If you don't have access to hills, do you have access to a treadmill that inclines?
What is your occupation? Is it particularly stressful (physically and/or psychologically)? Do you do shift work? Do your working hours ever change? Do you have a long commute? Do you travel with work often? Do you have children? Do you have any other commitments I should be aware of?
